DE ZAAK BLOK' vertoning op het Festival van de Afgewezen Film
Het 2e Festival van de afgewezen film vindt plaats van 13 - 16 maart 2008 in het Amsterdamse Betty Asfalt Complex. Makers die met hart en ziel aan een (afgewezen) productie hebben gewerkt, krijgen tijdens dit festival alsnog de kans hun dierbare product aan een publiek te vertonen.
Het digitale themakanaal Holland Doc heeft het initiatief omarmd en biedt dit jaar de afgewezen documentairemakers een podium. Van 29 maart tot en met 4 april 2008 zijn alle afgewezen documentaires te zien op het digitale themakanaal.
Alle afgewezen documentaires van het 1e Festival zijn te zien op Holland Doc van 26 januari tot en met 2 februari 2008. 'De Zaak Blok' zal worden vertoond op zaterdag 15 maart om 12.00. Entree voor de hele dag is 12,50, maar voor studenten slechts 10 euro.

Dreigbrieven aan Maartens advocaat
De Zweedse advocaat van Maarten, Stig Centerwall, ontvangt regelmatig dreigbrieven via zijn officieel geheime postbus. De laatste brief ontving hij twee dagen nadat zijn boek over Maartens rechtszaak en de manipulaties en leugens van de Götebörgse politie werd gepubliceerd.
Stig verscheen die week driemaal op de televisie en de meeste grote Zweedse kranten schreven over zijn boek en Maartens zaak.

'O 2954'
a NEW book by lawyer Stig Centerwall
In the autumn of 2001 the Dutch citizen Maarten Blok was remanded in custody, in his absence, by the district court of Göteborg. The prosecutor accused him of having beaten a police officer on the head with a stick on the evening of June 14th 2001 at the school Hvitfeldtska. In the autumn of 2004, three years later, he was handed over to the Sweden and indicted. After two days of court hearings he was released. The prosecution was dismissed.

'O 2954' is a story about how some policemen decide to frame an innocent. The book is written by Stig Centerwall, Maarten Blok's counsel for the defence. Step by step he shows how testimonies and minutes have been adjusted during the investigation so that Blok could be charged and sentenced for serious assault.
During the trial Maarten Blok's counsel showed a film which he had been given by Maarten's friends. The film reveals that two policemen are attacked from behind. Not by Maarten Blok but by an unknown man. One of the attacked policemen is pressing charges against Blok. The other policeman is a witness for the prosecution. When the two policemen see the film they both say: "This is not the reported incident." They also deny being on the film.
The lies of the policemen were discovered after the defence had obtained enlargements of the photos showing the number on the policeman's helmet. On the helmet the number O2954 now became visible and it proved to be the same number as was reported in the preliminary investigation. When the policeman was asked if he could see the number on the helmet he answered: "I can see that the policeman in the picture has my helmet number."
In this story you can find perjury, official misconduct, tampering with and falsification of minutes. The list of committed crimes can be made long but there is something which is even more serious, the abuse of power and the corruption within the legal system in Sweden.

THE SUPPORTGROUP WROTE A B BOOK ABOUT MAARTEN'S CASE

On September 23rd 2005 the Dutch version of the book about Maartens case was presented. The book contains the story of Maartens trip to Gothenburg, his arrest, expulsion and the request for extradition. It is about the court cases and actions, the difficulties Maarten experiences during the 3 year wait and the trial in Sweden. It is a story about the miscarriages of justice in Sweden, the dangers of the new European extradition treaty and of the experiences of Maartens support group, his family and friends.
The English version of the book will be released shortly. Both the versions can be ordered through the support group (info@steunmaarten.org), and will cost €9,90 including a DVD with short movies. If you would like to help with the foreign distribution of the book, please contact us.
